Brussels, 23 July – As the European Parliament and Commission prepare for their next leadership cycle, the Association of European Self-Care Industry (AESGP) is calling for a commitment to a healthier Europe.
Recognizing the economic and social value of non-prescription medicines, medical devices, and food supplements, AESGP presented its Vision for a Sustainable Europe to over 200 representatives from the incoming class of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and Accredited Parliamentary Assistants (APAs) at the networking reception organized in partnership with The Parliament magazine.
AESGP’s vision aims to enhance healthcare systems by integrating personalized self-care and empowering individuals to effectively manage their well-being. Key elements of this vision include:
- ACCESSIBLE HEALTHCARE SOLUTIONS: A healthier Europe is a Europe with better healthcare access. This can be achieved by increasing the products available in the self-care range, promoting the use of legislation that encourages switches from prescription to non-prescription medicines, and including self-care products in personal health records.
- SUSTAINABLE HEALTHCARE INVESTMENT: The new mandate is an opportunity to incorporate cost-effective self-care into public health strategies to relieve pressure on healthcare systems and budgets. Decision-makers can choose the path to a healthier Europe by accelerating investments in self-assessment and self-treatment solutions as well as fostering innovation for disease prevention, early diagnostics and treatment.
- HEALTH EDUCATION AND EMPOWERMENT: Health education and empowerment are essential to enable individuals to have a responsible role in managing their health. With disinformation on the rise, now is the time to develop European guidelines to improve health literacy and communication to patients.
- SUPPORTING EUROPEAN INSTITUTIONS: There is no health without robust legislation. AESGP advocates for agile regulatory frameworks that support healthcare goals, resource efficiency, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.
AESGP looks forward to working with the incoming European Parliament and European Commission to prioritize accessible healthcare and individual empowerment through self-care.
By enhancing healthcare infrastructure, promoting personalized self-care, and empowering individuals, we can create a Europe that prioritizes well-being and stands as a beacon of health and prosperity.
