Public Affairs Intern

Are you passionate about shaping public perception, engaging with stakeholders, and making a positive impact on the healthcare industry? AESGP is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented, and highly motivated Public Affairs Intern to join our team in a hands-on and rewarding internship opportunity.

The public affairs intern is a new role, and the successful candidate will contribute to expanding AESGP’s governmental and public affairs profile. This role requires strong analytical skills, excellent time management, and the ability to work independently while actively incorporating feedback.

Working with AESGP team and members, you will be involved in raising awareness and understanding on the value of Self-Care, providing input to evidence-based policy making, and contributing to the development of AESGP strategy.

The post-holder will play a supporting role in developing AESGP’s interaction with European Union Institutions, policy makers, their staff, and other stakeholders, fostering the Self-Care sector’s relationships with them.

Your KEY RESPONSIBILITIES will be:

  • Work closely with the Governmental and Public Affairs Manager to develop public affairs strategies that further AESGP’s objectives and strengthen self-care in Europe.
    • Support initiatives for effective engagement with key policymakers and decision-makers, particularly within European Institutions.
    • Conduct horizon scanning for upcoming policy developments and maintain a public affairs calendar.
    • Prepare well-structured briefing materials for political audiences and senior internal stakeholders.
    • Identify opportunities and draft high-quality responses to parliamentary, government, and other consultations.
    • Monitor the political environment and provide timely intelligence to internal stakeholders.
    • Track and analyse legislative files, policy events, and parliamentary activity with accuracy.
    • Develop and maintain public affairs contacts within the European Parliament, Commission, and other relevant bodies.
    • Draft parliamentary updates, stakeholder briefings, and other key communications materials.
    • Build and maintain a structured parliamentary contact database and act on relevant developments.
    • Establish and nurture relationships with key decision-makers to enhance AESGP’s engagement strategy.
    • Develop and update stakeholder maps for relevant legislative files and healthcare policies.
    • Support communications related to governmental and public affairs activities.
    • Accompany AESGP representatives to relevant stakeholder meetings, ensuring high professionalism.
    • Attend and actively contribute to AESGP team meetings, committee meetings, and expert group discussions.
    • Maintain a high level of professionalism, including timeliness, appropriate conduct, and responsiveness.
    • Carry out any other duties and projects appropriate to the post as required by line managers.

    Your required QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE should be:

    • Graduate in health sciences, political sciences, international relations, or a related field.
    • Strong knowledge of European healthcare policy and the European Union’s legislative processes.
    • Understanding of the political environment and developments impacting the healthcare sector.
    • Experience in writing concise, well-structured, and analytical policy documents or communications.

    Your main SKILLS and ABILITIES should be:

    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize information effectively.
    • Ability to present complex information clearly and concisely in written, visual, and verbal formats.
    • Proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to take initiative without constant supervision.
    • Excellent time management skills – ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
    • High level of professionalism, reliability, and accountability in all work-related responsibilities.
    • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to communicate diplomatically.
    • Fluent in English (oral and written); proficiency in additional EU languages is a plus.
    • Strong IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with database management and design skills are a plus.
