Public Affairs Intern
Are you passionate about shaping public perception, engaging with stakeholders, and making a positive impact on the healthcare industry? AESGP is seeking a dynamic and motivated Public Affairs Intern to join our team in a hands-on and rewarding internship opportunity.
The public affairs intern is a new role, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to help expanding the governmental and public affairs profile of AESGP.
Working with AESGP team and members, you will be involved in raising awareness and understanding on the value of Self-Care, influencing policy, and contributing to the development of our strategy in the run up to European Elections and beyond.
The post-holder will play a supporting role in developing AESGP’s interaction with European Union Institutions, policy makers, their staff, and other stakeholders, fostering the Self-Care sector’s relationships with them.
Your KEY RESPONSIBILITIES will be:
- Work with the Governmental and Public Affairs Manager and to develop public affairs strategies that further the aims and objectives of AESGP members and self-care in Europe.
- Support appropriate initiatives for effective engagement to raise awareness and strengthen our reputation with key policymakers and decision-makers, particularly with European Institutions.
- Horizon scanning for upcoming policy developments and activities and maintain a public affairs calendar.
- Prepare high-quality briefing materials for political audiences and senior internal stakeholders to support the delivery of AESGP policy data and priorities.
- Identify opportunities and draft responses to parliamentary, government and other consultations.
- Monitor political environment and feedback timely intelligence to all relevant internal staff.
- Track the progress of legislative files, policy events, and other parliamentary activity.
- Help develop and maintain public affairs contacts in Parliament, Commission and with other stakeholders.
- Develop parliamentary updates and other specific materials and briefing documents.
- Build and update a parliamentary contact management database, assessing information and acting on it where necessary.
- Help establishing contacts to develop AESGP relationship with key decision-makers.
- Develop and update stakeholder maps for relevant legislative files and policies impacting the healthcare sector.
- Support communications related to governmental and public affairs activities.
- Accompany AESGP representatives at relevant stakeholder meetings.
- Attend and prepare for AESGP team meetings, committee meetings and expert group meetings.
- Carry out any other duties and projects appropriate to the post as required by the line managers.
Your required QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE should be:
- Graduate in health sciences, political sciences, or international relations.
- Knowledge of the processes of the European Union as well as of legislative procedures
- Knowledge of the European healthcare area.
- Understanding of the European Union political environment and political developments as they impact the Healthcare sector.
- Experience of writing clear, concise, and persuasive copy for a wide range of audiences and in a variety of formats.
Your main SKILLS and ABILITIES should be:
- Good critical thinking and fact-finding skills, and ability to identify and understand key issues.
- Ability to present complex information in a way that is straightforward to understand, in writing, presentations and oral communication.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities.
- Able to prioritise and work under pressure, meeting deadlines with tight schedules.
- Collaborative working style, happy to work with others to achieve agreed objectives.
- Good command of English, both oral and written, and another or more European Union languages.
- Good IT skills (Microsoft Office Suite), database management experience, and some communication and design skills are welcome.
