Junior Public Affairs Officer (Full-Time, Permanent)

Are you ready to take the next step in your public affairs career and make a real impact on European health policy? AESGP is looking for a committed and driven Junior Public Affairs Officer to strengthen our team and help advance the voice of the self-care industry in Europe.

Working with AESGP team and members, you will be involved in raising awareness and understanding on the value of Self-Care, providing input to evidence-based policy making, and contributing to the development of AESGP strategy. 

This is a full-time, permanent role based in Brussels, offering hands-on engagement and a supporting role in developing AESGP’s interaction with European Union Institutions, policy makers, their staff, and other stakeholders, fostering the Self-Care sector’s relationships with them.

Your KEY RESPONSIBILITIES will be:

  • Work closely with the Governmental and Public Affairs Manager to develop public affairs strategies that further AESGP’s objectives and strengthen self-care in Europe.
  • Monitor EU policy and legislative developments relevant to the self-care and health sectors.
  • Draft policy briefings, consultation responses, and stakeholder communications with clarity and precision.
  • Support advocacy campaigns and assist in developing AESGP’s positions on key issues.
  • Support initiatives for effective engagement with key policymakers and decision-makers, particularly within European Institutions.
  • Conduct horizon scanning for upcoming policy developments and maintain a public affairs calendar.
  • Help prepare AESGP representatives for meetings with EU institutions and stakeholder organisations.
  • Prepare well-structured briefing materials for political audiences and senior internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor the political environment and provide timely intelligence to internal stakeholders.
  • Track and analyse legislative files, policy events, and parliamentary activity with accuracy.
  • Develop and update stakeholder maps for relevant legislative files and healthcare policies.
  • Maintain and grow AESGP’s stakeholder database, and engagement tools.
  • Coordinate with internal committees, expert groups, and members on advocacy priorities, including preparing and attending meetings.
  • Represent AESGP at relevant external events, forums, and meetings.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and messaging around European elections, health priorities, and institutional dialogues.
  • Your required QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE should be:

    • University degree in health science, political science, EU affairs, law, or a related field.
    • At least 1–2 years of relevant work or internship experience in public affairs, ideally in EU institutions, associations, consultancies, preferably in healthcare-related sectors.
    • Solid understanding of EU legislative procedures and institutional dynamics.
    • Understanding of the political environment and developments impacting the healthcare sector.
    • Proven ability to draft policy materials and communications independently and to a high standard.

    Your main SKILLS and ABILITIES should be:

    • Strong political and analytical thinking.
    • Excellent written and spoken English; proficiency in other EU languages are a plus.
    • High sense of responsibility, reliability, and professional conduct.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills – ability to structure messages clearly, concisely, and with visual coherence.
    • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to communicate diplomatically.
    • Basic design awareness – an eye for clean layout, consistency, and how to make complex information visually accessible.
    • Strong IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with database management and design tools are a plus.
    • Proactive, solution-oriented attitude and a collaborative mindset.
    • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with an ability to juggle multiple priorities.
    • High level of professionalism, reliability, and accountability in all work-related responsibilities.
    • Confidence to work both independently and as part of a small but ambitious team.
    • Able to communicate complex ideas in a simple yet engaging form both orally and in writing.
