From paper to digital leaflets: making patient information more inclusive

The European Union is undergoing a significant shift from traditional paper-based Patient Information Leaflets (PILs) to a fully digital product information system. This transformation is driven by collaborative efforts from the European Medicines Agency (EMA), Heads of Medicines Agencies (HMA), and the European Commission (EC) with the aim of enhancing healthcare communication and patient information accessibility across member states.

In 2023, AESGP commissioned Ipsos European Public Affairs to run a consumer survey in six EU Member States as a first step towards building a better understanding of EU consumers’ perceptions and expectations with regard to product information for non-prescription medicines and their readiness to use digital formats.

This event will present the main findings of the survey and discuss how best to implement the transition from paper to digital leaflets.
