Food Supplements
AESGP actively engaged in the implementation of the legal and regulatory framework applicable to food supplements with the aim to contribute to a balanced and pragmatic approach by all stakeholders in the sector, while ensuring the availability of safe and beneficial food supplements.
On the basis of a close collaboration with EU authorities (the European Food Safety Authority, EFSA and the European Commission, DG Santé) and other stakeholders active in this field, AESGP focused its activities on the use of food additives and novel foods, as well as on the safety of substances other than vitamins or minerals covered by Article 8 of Regulation 1925/2006. It also concentrated on the ongoing discussions regarding the setting of maximum levels of vitamins and minerals called for by the Food Supplements Directive. Besides its regulatory activities, AESGP closely followed and monitored political developments affecting the marketing of food supplements, such as the European Parliament’s own-initiative implementation report regarding the Nutrition and Health Claims Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 (NHRC).
